Knee Arthroscopy / Key Hole Surgery

Knee Arthroscopy / Key Hole Surgery:

I have suffered with knee pain on/off for a few years now, my doctor says my weight gain over the years has not helped and that the cartlidge in the knee cap is more than likely worn down.  I am currently awaiting surgery called Knee Arthroscopy / Key Hole Surgery.  But..... I am on 30 years old.  I hate what is happening to me because it has started to affect my daily life in a big way.  I can no longer lay down in the bath because it takes too long to get back up and leaves me in much more pain, I can not bend down eirther due to this.  At 30 I feel like an old lady most days.  Most morning while walking my 11 year old daughter to school I lean on her as support to walk and thats not fair on me but certainly not fair on her.

For anyone currently waiting to have this type of surgery done and/or is worried I have decided to write a blog on why it is performed, what happening during surgery and the outcome.  I hope you find it of good help and advice.

People require this type of surgery because: the pain they feel is unbearable and limits their daily activities such as standing up from a chair and climbing the stairs.  Other treatments such as medication and/or creams have failed and you still have knee pain.

Key hole surgery is a surgical procedure in which a fibre-optic telescope.  Fluid is then pumped into the joint to allow for the joint to be seen by the medics.  The surgery is viewed via a monitor.  The incisions made are very small, about 1.8 in inches.  The surgery takes place under anaesthetic and the inside of the joint is examined for damaged tissue.  Arthroscopic surgery includes the removal or the repair of a torn cartlidge, ligament reconstruction, the removal of loose debris and/or the trimming of damaged cartlidge.  This type of procedure is often performed on an outpatient basis and the patient is allowed home the same day.

The Outcome:  After surgery the healing is fast and there is less scarring involved.

Good information. My spouse had this done one week ago today. I'll be happy to see him pain-free (once the surgical pain subsides). (He had a lot of damage.) Thanks for writing and sharing this Hub.
